Caring for your tree

Christmas Tree Instructions from ‘The Christmas Tree Man’

Care of your tree

Unwrapping the tree:
Unwrap your tree on an easily cleaned surface or some newspaper, in case soil has been dislodged from the pot during transit.  When removed please dispose of the netting as it could be a Hazard to Children or Pets.

Choosing a position for the tree:
Please note the pot has holes in the bottom for drainage as any house plant, so do not place the pot directly onto a surface that may be damaged.  Whenever possible do not place your tree directly next to a radiator or other heat source unless you intend to use it only at a low level.

Watering spike:
Instructions:
a) Take the long plastic tube to connect with the plastic flow control device.
b) Take an empty water bottle (most 500ml plastic bottles, e.g. Cola will fit onto the spike, please ensure that any bottle is thoroughly cleaned before using) fill it with water and screw the flow control device on to the top of the bottle.  No plastic bottle is included as we believe this item can easily be supplied by yourself.
c) Insert the flow control device into the soil so that the water bottle is upside down.
d) Turning the device on the flow control will adjust the flow of water.  You will notice that air bubbles will form on the inside of the plastic bottle.  This indicates that water is flowing out of the device.  When the number of air bubbles become less it means that the water flow is less.
If you find you have no room for the watering spike just keep your tree well watered as you would any house plant.  Fill the watering spike bottle or water your tree every day.  Do not return your Watering Spike retain it and use it for other house plants during the year with our complements.

Feed instructions:
The Sachet of food included with your tree should be added in two equal parts to your 500ml bottle initially 2-days after receipt and just before Christmas day to retain your trees health through the Christmas period.  Please refer to the manufacturer’s instructions which also provides information of alternative methods of application if preferred.  Note do not over feed your tree.

Collection of your tree and re-tagging

Note - Please let us know if your tree has been damaged or has not survived the Christmas period as it would not be ecological for us to collect and we would request you inform us and dispose of the tree yourself.

We will advise you by e-mail the date we can collect your tree which will be shortly after the 12 Days of Christmas.  Although people prefer to erect their trees at varying dates before Christmas it would not be viable to collect the trees in such a manner.  On the date for dispatch as advised could you either personally give your tree to the Dispatch Driver or leave it outside your property address for collection.  To identify the tree we would ask you to firmly tie a Label to the trunk with your Name and original Item Number (prefixed ‘CTM-‘), which we will then record on our Database following receipt.

We have also received numerous requests by individuals who wish to keep their tree and plant it out in their own garden.  As this meets the ethical aims of the business we are quite happy for you to do this providing you clearly inform us by e-mail of your intention stating your name and original Item Number.  Our recommendation would be to dig a hole and plant the tree in its pot, using this technique you slow down the trees growth allowing it to fill out, with no damage to the tree, making it available for several Christmases to come.  As necessary you will need to re-pot into a slightly larger container, trees have been dispatched in 10, 15 & 20 Litre Pots each re-potting should increase the pot size by 5 Litres.  If you dig the tree into the soil it will grow faster and may not respond well to being lifted from the garden next Christmas should you again wish to bring it indoors.
